Slow News Day

[January 20th] -- We're beginning to enter into an information vacuum, a time when all of the off-season positioning is over and the spring-training excitement is still a few weeks away. Oh sure, there is some news; the team has officially announced that Dave Jageler has joined the Nationals' broadcast team. Out with the old Dave, in with the new. Their voices will be shot through the lithosphere by the blow-torch radio station that used to be WTOP.

And that's pretty much it.

No one knows what's happening with Alfonso Soriano and his attitude, and probably no one will until spring training begins.

And so we wait.

If I here of something really interesting that happens today, I'll be sure to report it. But, for now at least, I think I'm going to throw my copy of "The Natural" into the DVD and try to take a nap.

And so it goes.

Check out Bill Ladson's story on Sammy Sosa.
I read the article before writing this post, but I don't think anything about Sammy Sosa is news until he either signs or doesn't sign, kind of like the stadium. Until they decide to build it or not to build it, it's just words on a website.
From your sidebar:

The problem Sosa seems to have is that there are no other teams bidding for his services, making it difficult to budge Bowden away from the minor-league contract.

Very good point.

On the other hand, this was pretty much the situation with Loaiza---almost exactly the same time last year, too.

We'll see, but I don't want Sosa, guaranteed money or even as a non-roster invitee to spring training.
Thanks for defending Bill Ladson a few weeks ago, Farid.
I could be wrong, but I don't think Jim Bowden offered a guaranteed contract to Eric Davis back in 1996. (Sosa's reps had claimed that he did, apparently.)
