Bowden At It Again

[February 9th] -- Jim Bowden continues to collect minor league players, signing five more today:

Mike Bacsik: Age [27] Played for 'AAA' Scranton/Wilkes Barre in 2005, going 7-10, 4.55 in 27 starts. 112 strikeouts and 41 walks in 160 innings. He has a 5-5, 5.58 major league record in 98 innings. Hey, he's a lefty.

Jim Crowell Age [31] Closer for 'AAA' Albuquerque, went 2-4, 2.67 with 44 strikeouts and 14 walks in 60 innings. Pitched 3 innings for the Marlins.

Bill Larson: Age [29] Played for Frisco of the Texas League, hit .289-7-34 in 189 at bats. Has 11 major league home runs in 432 at-bats.

Anthony Medrano: Age [32] 12 year minor league veteran with a career .269 batting average. Has never made it to the major leagues.

Rayner Bautista: Age [27] Played with Atlantic City of the Independent League, hit .290-16-58 with .826 OPS. Of course, this is a 27 year old playing against 19 and 20 year olds.

Over all, the Nationals signed five guys who have little or no chance of impacting the team in any capacity. Of the five, Mike Bascik, because he's a lefty and has good control, will likely be a starter for the New Orleans Zephyrs, and might get a chance at some point to show what he can do with the big club if an injury occurs.

Brandon Larson ... another ex-Red (Along with Crowell)

An aside regarding your posting on the 2006 draft, you cannot trade draft picks in MLB.

I didn't know that. I guess, however, the more I think about it, I don't reacall it ever happening.
Thanks Brian.
